Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans for the United States to acquire Greenland, citing national security concerns. "I would like to make a deal, you know, the easy way, but if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way," Trump stated to reporters at the White House on Friday evening.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Trump's remarks emphasized the perceived threat posed by Russia and China potentially taking control of Greenland. He asserted that action on Greenland is inevitable to prevent any foreign dominance, stressing, "We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not."
Further, Trump warned of the necessity of risking conflict with Denmark to secure the island, which he described as essential to preventing Russia or China from becoming a neighbor. In response to these statements, Denmark declared that any military action would signify the end of the NATO alliance.
In a show of solidarity, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK, and Denmark issued a joint statement highlighting that only Greenland and Denmark possess the authority to determine their future.
