Peshawar: At least 11 militants were killed in two separate operations by security forces in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said military on Saturday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, a press release by Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that an intelligence-based operation was conducted by the security forces in North Waziristan tribal district of KPK following reports of militant presence. During the operation, Pakistani troops engaged the militants' location, resulting in the killing of six militants after an intense exchange of fire.
The military further detailed that a second joint intelligence-based operation was carried out by police and security forces in the Kurram tribal district of KPK. In the ensuing fire exchange, five militants were effectively neutralized, as confirmed by the ISPR.
Additionally, weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed militants, who had been actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces, law enforcement agencies, and the target killing of innocent civilians.
The release emphasized that security operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants in the area. It reiterated the commitment of Pakistan's security forces and law enforcement agencies to continue their counter-terrorism campaign at full pace to eradicate the threat of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
These operations occur amidst a rise in terror attacks in Pakistan, particularly in the KPK and Balochistan provinces which share a border with Afghanistan.
