Cairo: Egypt and Japan have been announced as the co-chairs for the third edition of the United Nations Water Conference, set to take place in December 2026 under the theme "Water for the Planet." This significant partnership aims to address critical global water issues.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, stated that the conference will focus on safeguarding ecosystems, preserving biodiversity, supporting the restoration of natural water cycles, and enhancing resilience to climate change and water scarcity. These objectives align with Sustainable Development Goal 6, which centers on ensuring access to water and sanitation for all.
The collaboration between Egypt and Japan builds on their leadership roles in the previous UN 2023 Water Conference. The two nations continue to advocate for eco-friendly water policies and nature-based solutions, emphasizing the importance of engaging local communities to bolster their resilience against escalating climate challenges.
The United Nations Water Conference 2026 will be organized by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal, with the event scheduled to take place in the UAE. This partnership signifies a continued commitment to addressing the pressing water-related challenges facing the planet.
