Zelensky: Ukraine Ready to Purchase US Air Defense Systems

The Hague: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed his country's readiness to purchase American air defense systems during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in The Hague on the sidelines of the NATO summit. In a post on X platform, Zelensky indicated that this move aims to enhance Ukraine's capability to protect its cities, civilians, and critical infrastructure.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Zelensky described the meeting with President Trump as "good," noting that the discussions focused on strengthening Ukraine's air defenses. He mentioned that they discussed the purchase of American air defense systems to shield Ukrainian cities, civilians, churches, and infrastructure. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is prepared to buy this equipment and support US weapons manufacturers, adding that Europe can potentially assist in this endeavor. He also revealed that the discussions included the possibility of joint drone production, highlighting mutual benefits.

In a related context, Zelensky briefed President Trump on the outcomes of recent technical meetings held in Istanbul, which included discussions on prisoner and body exchanges. He noted that Russia handed over the remains of several of its soldiers, and forensic examinations are currently underway in Kyiv to identify their relatives.

The meeting further addressed the latest developments on the battlefield in Ukraine. President Zelensky asserted that "Putin is definitely not winning" and presented President Trump with facts about the current situation on the ground. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the US President for his support, saying, "thank you for the kind words about our people. We will keep working." President Trump, during a press conference held earlier in The Hague, described his meeting with Zelensky as "very nice" and expressed optimism about the potential for ending the conflict.
