Manama: The Head of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution stated that the High Criminal Court issued its ruling today in a case in which a defendant was charged with seeking and communicating with the terrorist organisation of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), with the intent of carrying out hostile terrorist acts against the Kingdom of Bahrain and harming its national security. The court sentenced her to life imprisonment and ordered the confiscation of the seized items.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the case began after the Public Prosecution received a report from the Cyber Crime Directorate at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security, stating that during its monitoring and follow-up operations, the directorate identified an electronic account publishing photographs and coordinates of important and vital sites and facilities within the Kingdom through a social media platform. Monitoring also revealed that the account had published content that would harm the military, political, and economic standing of the Kingdom, in addition to including glorification, encouragement, and promotion of criminal Iranian aggression against the country. Investigations led to identifying the user of the account.
Upon receiving the report, the Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation and questioned the defendant, who admitted to the charges against her. She said she had used her social media account to assist those carrying out aggression against the Kingdom of Bahrain by publishing images and coordinates of vital sites, along with statements indicating they could be targeted.
She also admitted to publishing videos and photographs of locations affected by that criminal aggression with the intention of glorifying, encouraging, and promoting it. The Public Prosecution then ordered her detention pending investigation and referred her to the High Criminal Court, which issued its ruling during today's session.
The Public Prosecution affirmed that the national interests of the Kingdom of Bahrain represent supreme state interests that must be safeguarded and protected, and that seeking assistance from any foreign state, or those acting in its interest, with the intent of harming the security of the Kingdom or undermining its sovereignty and territorial integrity, constitutes a crime affecting state security and exposes the perpetrator to criminal accountability.
The Public Prosecution affirmed that it will continue to take firm legal measures against anyone who commits, participates in, or incites such acts, considering them serious crimes that affect the security and stability of the country, and for which penalties under the law may extend to the death penalty.
