WHO Limits Polio Immunization Campaign to Gaza City Amid Conflict Concerns.

Gaza: The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, announced on Friday that the relaunch of the polio immunization campaign will be confined to Gaza City starting tomorrow. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ghebreyesus, during a press conference in Geneva, highlighted that the ongoing conflict has significantly affected the organization's ability to meet its initial goal of vaccinating approximately 119,000 children under the age of ten in northern Gaza. The situation has necessitated a more localized approach to the immunization efforts. Ghebreyesus also commented on the Israeli Knesset's recent decision to ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He warned that this move would hinder the logistical network crucial for most humanitarian organizations, which rely on UNRWA for the delivery of supplies in Palestine. This ban, he noted, could worsen the humanitarian situation in Gaza and elevate the risk of disease outbreaks. T he Director-General stressed that UNRWA has been a key provider of essential health services and humanitarian aid for over seventy years, conducting daily medical consultations and administering vaccinations to children. He warned that any disruption to UNRWA's operations could have severe consequences for the health and well-being of the Palestinian population, particularly in Gaza.
