SRCS Chief Urges Ceasing “Genocide” in Sudan.

Geneva: Secretary General of Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) Aida Abdullah has called on the international community to take urgent action to stop the ongoing "mass murder" in Sudan and support the humanitarian needs of the Sudanese people. Speaking to KUNA on Friday, Abdullah expressed concern over the lack of international attention to the severe crisis in Sudan following the conclusion of the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva. According to Kuwait News Agency, Abdullah highlighted the dire situation faced by approximately 14 million displaced individuals due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. She emphasized the severe absence of security, health, and food, exacerbated by a significant shortfall in international funding needed to address this humanitarian crisis. The humanitarian response initiated by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has only managed to gather 30 percent of the required funds. Abdullah expressed disappointment over the ineffectiveness of the United Nations' humanitarian response plan aimed at providing relief aid to the Sudanese population. She noted that this insufficient response indicates a lack of international focus and commitment to addressing Sudan's humanitarian crisis. The four-day conference concluded on Thursday, bringing together hundreds of representatives from states and Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. The participants adopted five resolutions aimed at enhancing respect for international humanitarian law, supporting local societies amid humanitarian crises, managing natural disasters, and protecting civilians in digital spaces.
