Washington: The United States and Ukraine have signed an agreement to establish a Reconstruction Investment Fund, the Treasury Department announced Wednesday. This agreement marks a significant step in the economic partnership between the two nations, aimed at accelerating Ukraine's economic recovery following Russia's full-scale invasion.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the partnership is designed to leverage the mutual assets, talents, and capabilities of both countries. The Treasury Department, along with the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), will collaborate with the Government of Ukraine to finalize the program's governance and advance this crucial partnership. The Treasury statement emphasized the substantial financial and material support the US has provided to Ukraine's defense, highlighting the importance of this new economic alliance.
US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent expressed optimism about the agreement, attributing its success to President Trump's efforts to secure lasting peace. Bessent stated, "Thanks to President Trump's tireless efforts to secure a lasting peace, I am glad to announce the signing of today's historic economic partnership agreement between the United States and Ukraine establishing the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund." He further noted that the agreement sends a clear message to Russia about the US commitment to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine. Bessent also reiterated that no entity that financed or supported the Russian war effort would benefit from Ukraine's reconstruction. Both countries are eager to operationalize this partnership to benefit both the Ukrainian and American people.
