Kuwait city: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Kuwait organized an event titled "The Family is a Homeland" to commemorate Arab Family Day, celebrated annually on December 7. The event's objective was to increase awareness about the family's societal role and importance and to enhance understanding of related issues.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Ameera Al-Hassan, Head of the UN-Habitat Office in Kuwait and the Gulf States, emphasized that the family is a fundamental pillar for urban communities' sustainability. Supporting families is essential for achieving social stability. Al-Hassan noted that dedicating this day aims to underscore family stability's core values, considering the family a safety valve amid various social, economic, and cultural changes. The event aligns with the UN-Habitat Mandate Work, which focuses on strengthening social cohesion and supporting family unity as a foundation for community sustainability.
The event featured a panel discussion addressing issues concerning the Arab family, its bonds, and the integration of Arab values and customs with other cultures. The panel concluded with recommendations, highlighting the importance of reinforcing these bonds and solidifying their values. Al-Hassan praised the community partnership with the Employees Club of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, which hosted the event, and the involvement of the volunteer team "Faz'at Al-Dhahiya" and the healthy cities of Al-Adailiya and Al-Faiha. She affirmed UN-Habitat's commitment to supporting initiatives that aim to strengthen family stability.
