Baghdad: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to arrive in Baghdad tomorrow for a series of discussions with key Iraqi leaders, including President Abdul-Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Mahmoud Mashhadani.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the agenda for Fidan's visit includes strengthening bilateral relations, addressing security issues, and evaluating current regional developments. The meetings are expected to build upon the outcomes of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's significant visit to Iraq earlier this year on April 22.
Fidan aims to express Turkiye's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Iraq and will offer support to the Iraqi government amidst challenges posed by the Israeli occupation and the situation in Syria. Furthermore, Fidan plans to convey Turkiye's satisfaction with the progress in security and counterterrorism efforts, particularly Iraq's designation of the PKK as a "banned organization." He will highlight the shared threat posed by the PKK to Turkiye, Iraq, and Syria, urging regional collaboration to counter the group's activities.
Turkiye expects Iraq to take concrete measures to eradicate terrorist elements within its borders. Additionally, Fidan will affirm Turkiye's dedication to the Development Road Project, discussing strategies to expedite this regional initiative's implementation.
