Turkish F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes During Mission, Pilot Killed

Balikesir: Turkish authorities announced Wednesday that an F-16 fighter jet crashed during a mission in Balikesir province in northwestern Turkiye, resulting in the death of its pilot.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense said on the social media platform X that contact was lost with an F-16 aircraft that had taken off from the 9th Main Jet Base Command in Balikesir. The ministry stated that search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to locate the aircraft. The teams confirmed the aircraft had crashed, and its wreckage was located.

Additionally, the ministry conveyed that a specialized accident review team will investigate to determine the cause of the incident.

Balikesir Governor Ismail Ustaoglu also communicated via the social media platform X, stating that the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. He noted that one pilot was killed in the incident and extended condolences to the Turkish people.
