Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday declared Wednesday as a day of mourning for the victims of a devastating fire that occurred in Bolu, located in the northwest of the country. The announcement came after a cabinet meeting held at the presidential complex.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Erdogan stated that national flags would be flown at half-mast on government buildings and embassies abroad to honor the memory of those who lost their lives. In response to the tragedy, a team of investigators has been formed to determine the causes of the fatal fire at the skiing resort in Bolu.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that the death toll from the fire at the ski resort in northwest Turkiye reached 66 people. Yerlikaya shared on the platform X that emergency teams from neighboring cities, including firefighters, disaster response units, and medical teams supported by helicopters, were dispatched to the scene to manage the crisis.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced that a judicial investigation had been initiated by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Six public prosecutors have been assigned to the case, and a five-person expert committee has been formed to assist with the investigation. The fire broke out at 03:27 am (Turkiye time) on Tuesday in a hotel in the Kartalkaya resort, situated in Bolu province.
