Milestones in Kuwait’s Historical Timeline Highlighted

Kuwait City: A glimpse into Kuwait's history reveals significant milestones that have shaped the nation's development over the years. Notable events include the inception of the first mail office in 1915 at the Dickson House, which served as the headquarters for the British agent in Kuwait, marking the start of formal postal services in the country.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1980, Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree establishing the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, which became the central entity overseeing the oil sector, pivotal to Kuwait's economy. In 1992, another decree by the Amir appointed Yousef Al-Sumait as Chairman and Director General of the Kuwait News Agency. Al-Sumait served until 1998, later becoming the minister of information.

In the realm of sports, 2009 was marked by Qadsia SC's victory in the Kuwaiti football league, where they emerged champions after defeating Kazma with a 1-0 scoreline. Meanwhile, 2012 saw the passing of former minister Sheikh Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah at age 68. His contributions included serving as the ambassador to the US, where he garnered support for Kuwait during the Iraqi aggression.

Further legislative and economic developments occurred in 2014, when the National Assembly approved amendments to transform Kuwait Airways into a shareholding company. That same year, the Kuwait Oil Company signed a USD 275 million agreement with Saudi Al-Khurayef Group for the installation and maintenance of submersible ASB pumps.

In 2019, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a KD nine million loan agreement with China to finance the expansion of a hospital, strengthening bilateral ties and health infrastructure. The following year, political dynamics shifted as MP Adel Al-Damkhi questioned Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Ghadeer Aseeri, leading to a no-confidence motion and her subsequent resignation in January 2020.

In recent years, Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital made strides in medical advancements by announcing a new technique in cosmetic surgery in 2023. Additionally, the Ministry of Health expanded its services by opening the Al-Mutla Health Center (1) in sector N11 in 2024, following its handover from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare.
