Trilateral Talks Between US, Russia, Ukraine Conclude in Geneva

Geneva: The trilateral talks between the US, Russia, and Ukraine concluded on Wednesday in Geneva as part of a US-led mediation effort aimed at finding a diplomatic solution to the four-year conflict.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the closed-door negotiations held on the 17th and the 18th of February in Geneva brought together delegations from the three countries along with advisers from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, told Russian journalists, as reported by the Russian news agency (RIA Novosti), that the talks were "difficult but businesslike," noting that the negotiations lasted two long days, with the next meeting taking place soon without specifying a date.

For his part, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said on his (X) account that the discussions made "meaningful progress" following President Donald Trump's efforts "to stop the killing in this terrible conflict." The head of the Ukrainian delegation and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, stated on his (X) account that working groups are addressing political and military tracks, focusing on clarifying mechanisms of previous decisions.

Despite the progress, disagreements persist over the status of the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine. Moscow insists on full control of the region, while Kyiv maintains that any agreement must respect Ukraine's territorial integrity.
