Washington: The Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Trump to resume efforts to dismantle the Department of Education in an apparent 6-3 vote along ideological lines, lifting a judge's order to reinstate employees terminated in mass layoffs. The administration's victory enables the president to move closer to fulfilling one of his major campaign promises to oversee the elimination of the Education Department, which was created in the 1970s.
According to Kuwait News Agency, US District Judge Myong Joun had previously blocked these efforts in May. Judge Joun ruled that President Trump needed congressional authorization for such actions and ordered the administration to reinstate the roughly 1,400 workers who were laid off in March.
The Supreme Court's ruling now lifts Judge Joun's injunction as the litigation continues in the lower courts. This decision is not a final verdict on the matter, and the dispute has the potential to return to the justices for further consideration.
