Seoul: Senior defense officials from South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) engaged in discussions on Wednesday to address the security situation and explore advancements in their defense and arms industry cooperation.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the discussions took place during a vice defense ministerial-level steering committee meeting between South Korea's Vice Defense Minister Lee Doo-hee and UAE's Vice Defense Minister Ibrahim Nasser Al-Alawi in Seoul.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to enhance joint training and personnel exchanges, and to pursue long-term cooperation in the arms industry and defense science and technology sectors. They also shared perspectives on key issues, with the UAE official expressing support for Seoul's efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula.
In a related development, the two countries previously signed a letter of intent in April for comprehensive cooperation on South Korea's domestic KF-21 fighter jets. This preliminary agreement allows the UAE Air Force to observe air drills involving the KF-21 and visit South Korean units set to operate the fighter jet.
