Geneva: Trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, sponsored by Switzerland, have commenced in Geneva, aiming to explore a settlement to the war that has been ongoing for four years. The discussions involve key representatives from each nation, focusing on critical security and humanitarian issues.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Ukrainian delegation is represented by National Security and Defense Council representative Rustem Umerov. The Russian delegation includes Vladimir Medinsky, the Russian president's special adviser and former Minister of Culture. The US delegation features Steve Witkoff, special envoy of US President Donald Trump, and Jared Kushner.
Umerov announced on the platform X that a new round of negotiations had just begun, expressing appreciation for the American efforts and their continued work in the negotiation process. He specified that the Ukrainian delegation has frameworks approved by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a clear mandate from him, highlighting that security and humanitarian issues are prioritized in the discussions.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that no major announcement should be expected on the first day of the talks, indicating that they will address a variety of key issues, including territorial matters and demands put forward by Russia. The Geneva talks, scheduled to continue until tomorrow, Wednesday, aim to continue the international dialogue process that began with previous rounds in Abu Dhabi, seeking implementable understandings covering political, security, and economic issues amid escalating regional tensions.
