Moscow: The Kremlin announced on Friday that President Vladimir Putin is prepared to meet with US President Donald Trump in Budapest, contingent upon the approval of relevant stakeholders. The anticipated discussions are set to focus on the ongoing Ukrainian crisis.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Kremlin's statement included Putin's expression of gratitude towards Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is currently visiting Moscow. Orban has shown willingness to host the potential US-Russian summit talks.
The statement highlighted Orban's remarks on Hungary's commitment to maintaining its relationship with Russia, despite facing external pressures. He also expressed satisfaction with the uninterrupted gas supplies from Russia to Hungary.
Orban further stated his country's readiness to "provide a platform to discuss the Ukrainian crisis." He had previously mentioned that his discussions in Moscow would cover the topic of Russian fossil fuel supplies to Hungary, following indications from Washington of a possible exemption of these supplies from sanctions.
This diplomatic initiative aligns with reports of discreet negotiations among various stakeholders involved in the four-year Ukrainian crisis.
