Prominent Events Marking Kuwait’s Historical Achievements

Kuwait city: Today, Kuwait commemorates several notable events in its history. Abdulaziz Al-Rushaid, a distinguished member of the 1921 Shura Council, passed away at the age of 51. He was a key figure in education, serving as the director of Mubarakiya and Ahmadiya Schools and also made history by publishing Kuwait Magazine in 1928, the first magazine in Kuwait's history.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1963, the Woman Cultural and Social Society was founded with the aim of enhancing women's roles in social activities and raising awareness about their rights and duties. Fast forward to 1996, Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree to establish the College of Pharmacy at Kuwait University, marking a significant advancement in higher education.

In 1999, the Hala February Festival was launched to boost tourism and economic activities in Kuwait. The year 2010 saw the Kuwait National Assembly approve a bill concerning the rights of people with special needs, highlighting the nation's commitment to inclusivity.

In 2014, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a USD 60 million loan agreement with Yemen to establish the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad College in Socotra Island and supply materials and equipment to 12 technical education colleges across 12 governorates.

In sports, 2016 was a landmark year as Kuwait football star Jassem Yaaqoub was ranked 35th in FIFA's list of the world's best players. Two years later, in 2018, the Kuwait Ministry of Health announced a significant breakthrough with a medical team successfully conducting a complex catheterization through the arteries of the hand and thigh.

In 2019, Kuwait demonstrated its international solidarity by donating one million euros to refurbish a hospital in the Italian town of Norcia, which had been devastated by an earthquake in 2016. Additionally, that year, the Ministry of Health reported the World Health Organization's approval of the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah award for elderly care and health promotion to a research team at La Pas Hospital in Spain. In a move towards digital advancement, the Central Bank of Kuwait launched e-banking services for government departments, enabling swift payments.

As the world faced the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, the Kuwait Government implemented restrictions to curb the virus's spread, including the closure of commercial activities and dining areas in restaurants during nighttime hours, while keeping pharmacies, food, and medical outlets open. In the same year, a team from the Chest Hospital performed a pioneering catheterization surgery for an elderly patient, marking a first in Kuwait and the Middle East.
