Islamabad: Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is scheduled to visit Tehran on Monday, as announced by Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei on Sunday. This visit was reported by Anadolu Ajansi (AA), citing the state news agency.
According to Nam News Network, the visit led by Munir, along with his delegation, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and further Pakistan's efforts in fostering peace and security in the region. Baqaei emphasized the importance of this trip in remarks shared by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), noting that Munir is set to hold discussions with senior Iranian officials during his stay.
Pakistan has played a significant role as a mediator between Iran and the United States throughout ongoing tensions, maintaining close communication with both parties. This diplomatic engagement follows the memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran on June 17, which initiated negotiations toward a final agreement. Despite these efforts, talks have stalled due to disagreements over security guarantees and the freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global trade and energy supply route.
Tensions escalated between July 8 and July 24, with military exchanges between the US and Iran. Washington conducted attacks on Iranian targets, while Tehran responded by striking US military facilities and equipment in several Arab countries, including Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
