Ramallah: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a stern warning regarding the transfer of the administration and supervision of the Ibrahimi Mosque from the Al-Khalil municipality to a settlement council, as reported by Israeli occupation media outlets.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministry's statement described this move as an unprecedented step by the occupation to assert its sovereignty over the mosque. This action is seen as an attempt to completely alter the mosque's identity and features, which the ministry argues is a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called upon UNESCO and the international community to intervene urgently to halt the decision's implementation. The ministry warns of potential repercussions on holy sites in general and the broader conflict arena. An occupation newspaper disclosed that the occupation aims to amend the status quo at the Ibrahimi Mosque by transferring powers from the municipality to the religious council in the Kiryat Arba settlement, which is constructed on the lands of the city.
