Oxford University Hosts Seminar on Memoirs of Kuwait’s First Woman Ambassador

Kuwait city: The Middle East Centre at St Antony's College, University of Oxford, organized a seminar chaired by the Center director, Professor Eugene Rogan, focusing on a book by the Former Kuwaiti Ambassador Nabeelah Al-Mullah titled "Breaking New Ground on the Global Stage: Memoirs of Kuwait's First Woman Ambassador". According to Kuwait News Agency, the seminar was held last evening and explored the four-decade diplomatic career of Al-Mullah, who is recognized as the first woman ambassador from the State of Kuwait. Initially planning an academic career, Al-Mullah discovered her passion for diplomacy and joined the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry in the 1970s. The Middle East Centre highlighted that Al-Mullah holds the distinction of being the first woman ambassador from the Gulf region, the first Arab woman to chair the IAEA Board of Governors, and the first Arab woman Permanent Representative to the United Nations. The event was attended by notable figures including Kuwait's Ambassador to the UK Bader Al-Mun ayekh, former UK Ambassador to Kuwait Michael Davenport, and other distinguished faculty members. Al-Mullah expressed to Kuwait News Agency, "I was honored to speak at the Middle East Centre at St Antony's College, Oxford University, as part of its seminar series to introduce my memoirs." Edwin Samuel, a visiting academic on sabbatical from the UK Foreign Office at St Antony's College, Oxford, who was present at the seminar, remarked to Kuwait News Agency that the book is a candid account of small power diplomacy, reflecting Al-Mullah's significant contributions as an Arab female diplomat. The book was initially launched in Kuwait at the Diplomatic Institute of the Foreign Ministry last April.
