Brussels: Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mark Rutte congratulated Donald Trump on his election as President of the United States in a phone call on Wednesday. Rutte expressed anticipation for renewed collaboration with Trump to further peace through NATO's strategic framework. He highlighted the significance of the United States' alliances, noting that NATO comprises 31 allied nations that bolster U.S. interests and ensure the safety of Americans. He also remarked on NATO's role in representing half of the globe's economic and military power. According to Kuwait News Agency, Rutte commented on the global challenges currently facing the Alliance, including a more assertive Russia, terrorism, and strategic competition with China. He also noted the increasing alignment between China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran as significant issues. Rutte emphasized the importance of NATO's collaboration to deter aggression, maintain collective security, and support economic stability. Ru tte commended President-elect Trump for his leadership during his previous term, which he stated had a significant impact on European defense spending, transatlantic burden-sharing, and the enhancement of NATO's capabilities. He assured that Trump would be welcomed by a more robust, larger, and unified Alliance upon assuming office on January 20. Rutte stressed the need for continued efforts to maintain peace and prosperity across North America and Europe.
