Kuwait city: Minister of Justice Nasser Al-Sumait met with UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls, Reem Al-Salem, on Sunday to discuss the ongoing issue of violence against females and its underlying causes and effects. The meeting focused on Kuwait's continuous initiatives to uphold the rights of women and girls and examined the legislative and punitive measures in place to combat all forms of violence against them.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Salem praised Kuwait's recently approved legislative amendments, especially those concerning the penal code, highlighting the country's dedication to safeguarding vulnerable segments of society. The discussions were attended by senior officials from the ministries of justice and foreign affairs.
Al-Salem is leading a delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, visiting Kuwait from September 2 to 9. This visit marks her second trip in two years, as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce collaboration between Kuwait and the OHCHR.
