Lebanon: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned on Tuesday Israeli occupation attacks over the past hours on towns in southern and eastern Lebanon.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Aoun stated that the timing of the Israeli strikes raises significant concerns as they coincided with the eve of a meeting of the ceasefire monitoring mechanism committee. This committee's purpose is to work towards halting hostilities and discussing practical steps to restore security and stability in southern Lebanon.
President Aoun emphasized that the ongoing Israeli attacks are aimed at derailing efforts at the local, regional, and international levels to prevent escalation. This is despite Lebanon's cooperation and the Lebanese army's implementation of government measures to extend state authority south of the Litani River.
He called on the international community to take effective action to halt the attacks and support the committee's mission, which involves assistance from concerned parties and international backing. The committee, formed following the ceasefire agreement effective from November 27, 2024, includes representatives from the United States (as chair), France, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), as well as the Lebanese and Israeli sides.
Recent Israeli occupation airstrikes in Lebanon have targeted areas, including Al-Manara in the eastern Beqaa and several southern towns. The most recent strike, occurring at dawn, hit a three-story building in an industrial area in Sidon city, resulting in one injury. Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli occupation forces have continued their offensives targeting towns, vehicles, and motorcycles in southern Lebanon.
