Larijani Sees Potential for Strategic De-escalation with Washington

Muscat: Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Ali Larijani, declared on Tuesday that recent developments in the negotiation track between Tehran and Washington have been positive, indicating that the next phase "may hold opportunities for strategic de-escalation." Larijani shared these insights during an interview with Omani television amidst his official visit to Muscat, where he engaged with senior officials in the Sultanate to discuss shared interests and regional stability.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Larijani emphasized that the success of the negotiations hinges on genuine political will from both sides. He asserted that adhering to a reasonable and realistic framework is essential for success, warning that raising additional demands could lead to failure. Larijani expressed Iran's readiness to engage in negotiations when they are realistic, suggesting that successful talks on the nuclear file could eventually expand to encompass other issues. He reiterated Tehran's stance that war is not a solution to disputes with Washington and advocated for resolving regional conflicts through dialogue and talks.

Larijani stated that if the US aims to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, it is a resolvable matter, but introducing unrelated issues would complicate the negotiations. He highlighted that existing regional disputes are key sources of tension, and addressing them could restore stability and peace in the region. The Iranian official pointed out that escalating tensions from military interventions complicate the regional landscape, whereas resolving these issues could lead to development and progress for all countries involved.

He remarked that the United States previously linked the nuclear issue with military and missile matters, but now the focus is solely on the nuclear file, which he described as a "rational approach." On Oman's efforts to facilitate Iran-US talks, Larijani praised Muscat's role in fostering suitable conditions for dialogue, labeling it as "extremely positive." He acknowledged that Oman has a deep understanding of the region's interests and is familiar with the trajectory of previous negotiations. Larijani concluded by recognizing the Sultanate's progressive vision, which qualifies it to play a constructive and effective role in the discussions.
