Kuwait’s National Library Celebrates British Council’s Platinum Jubilee

Kuwait city: Kuwait National Library (NLK) hosted on Tuesday the British Council's Platinum Jubilee Exhibition, displaying rare photos and publications documenting the Council's role in the educational field in Kuwait. Researcher in Kuwaiti-British relations and exhibition organizer Essa Dashti highlighted the significance of this event in strengthening historical ties.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the exhibition was inaugurated by British Ambassador to Kuwait, Belinda Lewis. Dashti noted that the exhibition features a rare collection of photos documenting the launch of the British Council's work in Kuwait in 1955, as well as important publications used in Kuwaiti schools to teach English.

The exhibition, which is set to continue for a week, marks the 250th anniversary of historical relations between Kuwait and the United Kingdom. It also includes photos of several high-level visits displayed for the first time, such as the visit of King Charles III, then Prince of Wales, in 1993. During that visit, he reopened the British Council following Kuwait's liberation from the Iraqi invasion, and he returned for a historic second visit in 1997.
