Kuwait’s IICO Initiates Water Well Projects in Northern Gaza

Kuwait City: The International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) has successfully implemented two central water well drilling projects in the northern Gaza Strip, with a total expenditure surpassing USD 123,500. These projects are set to benefit over 20,000 displaced individuals and local residents in the region.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the IICO announced in a press statement on Thursday that the first project was executed in the Beit Lahia area. It involved drilling a central water well reaching a depth of 60 meters, complemented by the installation of a 30-horsepower submersible pump. This setup has a production capacity of 50,000 liters per hour of usable water. The project, costing approximately USD 70,490, is integrated into Beit Lahia Municipality's public water network, thereby securing water access for numerous families.

The second project was carried out in the Jabalia area. It comprised the construction of a 6x4 meter operating room and the installation of a filter, along with a sophisticated network of steel pipes to ensure water quality. The project cost approximately USD 53,044 and aims to bolster the public water network, enhancing the municipality's infrastructure.

The IICO stated that these projects are designed to provide safe and sustainable water sources, addressing the water scarcity issue intensified by prevalent displacement and high population density. They also aim to alleviate pressure on current water sources and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.

Previously, the organization undertook a similar initiative to rehabilitate and equip an artesian well in the Habiblash area of Mauritania's Trarza state. This project, powered by solar energy, targets around 12,000 local beneficiaries and was part of the "Noor Boubyan" campaign, costing approximately USD 39,166.
