KUWAIT CITY: The Kuwaiti cabinet convened on Wednesday for its weekly meeting to discuss preparations for the 45th GCC Summit set to take place in Kuwait on December 1, alongside addressing significant legal amendments. The meeting was chaired by Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah. According to Kuwait News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Maousherji emphasized Kuwait's enthusiasm in hosting GCC leaders, expressing hopes that the summit will fulfill regional aspirations. Additionally, Kuwait announced its intention to join the Global Water Organization, an initiative spearheaded by Saudi Arabia, as a founding member. The cabinet detailed the official Kuwaiti delegation for the upcoming GCC Summit, including key government figures such as His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and other senior ministers. The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf's recent visit to Qatar, where he participated in the 21st GCC Defense Ministers meeting, underscoring Kuwait's commitment to enhancing Gulf defense collaboration. Significant legal amendments were approved, particularly concerning traffic law 67/1976. The changes include increased penalties for severe violations such as reckless driving and crossing red lights, with the draft law awaiting approval from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Furthermore, Minister Noura Al-Fassam presented the national committee's report on countering money laundering and financing terrorism, outlining plans for upcoming fiscal years. The cabinet approved the report from the supreme committee on Kuwaiti citizenship, including cases related to the withdrawal of citizenship under law 15/1959. The session concluded with condolences expressed for the family of firefighter Warrant Officer Abdullah Al-Farsi, who died while on duty.
