Kuwait city: Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait announced Kuwait's accession to the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention on Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. This move is aimed at enhancing the protection of historic, cultural, and religious heritage during armed conflicts.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Sumait, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Permanent National Committee for the International Humanitarian Law, shared these remarks after the Cabinet approved the decree-into-law for the accession during its weekly session. This decision underscores Kuwait's commitment to preserving heritage as a shared human value and aligns with its policy to support international humanitarian law and synchronize national laws with global obligations.
Al-Sumait expressed gratitude to the Government for this decision and praised the cooperative efforts of the Minister of Information, Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and Chairperson of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Al-Yahya. He acknowledged the role of the national permanent committee in addressing this matter.
