Al Asimah: The Ministry of Health announced on Monday that Kuwait has joined the International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) as an observer, marking a strategic step to enhance the country’s pharmaceutical regulatory system.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministry stated that Dr. Donia Al-Bastaki, Head of the Drug Registration Department, represented Kuwait at the ICH General Assembly. She briefed the assembly on the features of Kuwait’s pharmaceutical regulatory framework, highlighting the evolution of the country’s legislative and regulatory infrastructure and ongoing policy updates. Kuwait’s participation was welcomed by member states, and the assembly unanimously voted to approve the country’s observer membership.
The ministry explained that this membership would grant Kuwait direct access to internationally adopted technical guidelines on pharmaceutical quality and safety. It also allows Kuwait to engage in expert working groups responsible for drafting global regulatory standards alongside major regulatory authorities. This milestone aligns with the New Kuwait 2035 Vision to develop Kuwait’s pharmaceutical industry by meeting international benchmarks and boosting the country’s efforts to enter regional and global markets. The ministry emphasized that this step is part of building an integrated and sustainable healthcare system.
