Justice Minister Al-Sumait Unveils National Drafts on Humanitarian Law

Kuwait city: Justice Minister Nasser Al-Sumait announced that two national drafts focused on strengthening the implementation of international humanitarian laws have been finalized and submitted to the Fatwa department for review before being presented to the cabinet.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the minister, who also serves as the head of the permanent national committee for international humanitarian law, highlighted that one of the drafts aims to protect the Red Crescent emblem and other symbols from misuse during conflicts and crises, adhering to the Geneva Convention.

The second draft addresses international crimes, providing the Kuwaiti judiciary with the authority to handle severe violations in line with article 17 of the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the International Criminal Court (ICC).

These initiatives are part of the national committee's priorities to ensure Kuwait meets international standards in the application of humanitarian law. The minister expressed his appreciation to the experts and committee members, both local and international, and reiterated Kuwait's commitment to fostering respect for international humanitarian law within its legal framework.
