Syrian Defense Minister Declares Complete Ceasefire in Al-Sweida Governorate

Kuwait city: Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra announced on Tuesday a complete ceasefire in Sweida governorate following an agreement with the city's notables and dignitaries, responding only to targeting by outlaw groups. This came in a post on X, saying that the city's neighborhoods will be under the control of Internal Security Forces once sweep operations are completed to maintain security and stability.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Abu Qasra stated, "We have issued strict instructions to our forces there to ensure the safety of residents and protect public and private property." He further elaborated that Sweida neighborhoods will be under the control of Internal Security Forces as soon as combing operations are completed to control the chaos and secure the return of residents to their houses. The minister also mentioned the deployment of military forces to Sweida City to hold violators accountable.

Over the past two days, Sweida Governorate, south of the capital Damascus, has witnessed armed clashes between outlaw groups from within the governorate and gunmen from neighboring areas, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.
