Tokyo: Japan and Kuwait have confirmed their intention to continue and enhance cooperation in key sectors such as energy, food trade, and regional stability during a policy meeting held in Tokyo. This was reported by the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Fifth Policy Consultations Meeting between the two foreign ministries included the participation of Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Sameeh Hayat, Japanese Assistant Foreign Minister Toshihide Ando, and other senior officials. A press release from the ministry detailed the discussions and outcomes of the meeting.
During the meeting, Toshihide Ando, who is also the Director-General for Middle Eastern and African Affairs, acknowledged Kuwait's consistent supply of crude oil to Japan. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to furthering bilateral energy cooperation. Additionally, they are nearing the completion of lifting the ban on Japanese beef imports to Kuwait and agreed to proceed with the necessary procedures.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of collaboration within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), where Kuwait holds the presidency this year. The countries agreed to strengthen their cooperation to stabilize the Middle East and East Asia. This policy meeting follows a significant summit in May between His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, which elevated their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
