Italian Ambassador Highlights Strong Ties and Support for Athletes with Disabilities

Kuwait City: The Italian Ambassador to Kuwait, Lorenzo Morini, emphasized the robust relationship between Kuwait and Italy, focusing on the support provided to people with disabilities, particularly in sports events. In a recent meeting with the Kuwaiti delegation set to participate in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy, from March 8 to 15, 2025, Morini expressed his commitment to facilitating the team's preparations and participation.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Morini assured that his embassy would streamline procedures to create an environment conducive to the Kuwaiti team's success and enjoyment at the competition. He expressed his delight at the participation of Kuwaiti athletes with mental disabilities and wished them success in achieving significant milestones, contributing to Kuwait's ongoing sports journey for athletes with disabilities.

Rihab Bursley, head of the Kuwaiti delegation, affirmed the support from Kuwait's official bodies, highlighting the nation's dedication to empowering individuals with disabilities to participate in various sports events. She noted that Kuwait would be represented by three athletes competing in ice skating and speed skating, with the Kuwaiti Special Olympics organization ensuring all necessary resources for their optimal performance.

Bursley praised the athletes' commitment to their training and their resolve to excel at this international event, which will host 1,500 athletes from over 100 countries. She also highlighted Kuwait's continued success, referencing the achievements of Kuwaiti athletes at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, which were recognized by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

It is noteworthy that athletes Abdullah Al-Ali and Hajar Al-Rashidi, participating in speed skating, and Mariam Dhiab, competing in ice skating, began their preparations for the event in September 2024.
