Iraqi FM Announces Baghdad’s Arab Summit to Propose Joint Political and Security Initiatives

Baghdad: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced that the upcoming Baghdad Summit, set for next Saturday, will propose several joint Arab political and security initiatives, as well as call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. In a press conference on Wednesday, Hussein outlined the summit's agenda, which includes establishing an Arab Center for Combating Terrorism, Organized Crime, and Drugs, along with an Arab Fund initiative aimed at supporting reconstruction efforts.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the summit is expected to conclude with the issuance of the Baghdad Declaration. This declaration will encapsulate the positions of Arab leaders on matters concerning the political, economic, social, and developmental interests of the Arab League's member states. A significant component of the declaration is the call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the opening of crossings to allow the entry of humanitarian aid.

Hussein emphasized the effectiveness and qualitative nature of the summit, noting that discussions will be grounded in realism and aim to address the current challenges facing the region. He highlighted the integrative nature of the event in conjunction with the GCC-US Summit occurring in Riyadh, suggesting that both summits serve the interests of the region and Arab countries.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister also expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the GCC leaders' discussions with the US President and the decision to lift sanctions on the Syrian people, indicating progress in regional diplomacy and cooperation.
