Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi announced their commitment to support Palestinian rights and coordinate on various regional and international issues. This announcement is part of a comprehensive partnership designed to guide relations between the two countries for the next 20 years.
According to Kuwait News Agency, during a joint session in Moscow, Araghchi emphasized that Iran-Russia relations encompass economic, political, and cultural areas. He noted that the two nations share similar views on significant regional and global matters, particularly developments in the Middle East and the rights of Palestinians.
Araghchi also pointed out the importance of scientific and technological cooperation as a fundamental aspect of their partnership. He stressed the necessity for continued coordination among "independent allied states" in international forums to address chaos and violations of international law.
Lavrov highlighted that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty provides a roadmap for the next two decades. He pointed out that, for the first time, the two sides will sign a foreign ministry consultation plan for 2026-28 to enhance foreign policy coordination, focusing on the Middle East and Palestinian rights.
The ministers discussed boosting bilateral trade and advancing joint energy and transport projects during the meeting. Lavrov noted that this was their fifth meeting in 2025, underscoring sustained coordination on multiple issues.
Araghchi arrived in Moscow on Tuesday, where he met with several senior Russian officials, including Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma's Committee on International Affairs, to discuss bilateral ties and strategic cooperation.
