GAZA CITY: Heavy rains have inundated 1,542 tents housing displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, exacerbating the plight of refugees already living in challenging conditions. The Palestinian Civil Defense reported on Wednesday that the deluge over the past two days had left many refugees without adequate shelter, as rainwater flooded their temporary homes.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Palestinian Civil Defense has been closely monitoring the situation, observing that rainwater levels have exceeded 30 centimeters in some areas. The flooding has led to widespread shivering among the displaced due to the cold and the damage to their belongings and mattresses. Despite receiving hundreds of distress calls, rescue teams have struggled to find alternative accommodations for those affected, leaving many to endure the freezing night temperatures without adequate shelter.
The adverse weather has compounded existing humanitarian concerns in Gaza. In recent days, Palestinian health authorities in the region reported the deaths of seven Palestinians, including children, attributing these fatalities to the ongoing frost wave and severe weather conditions. The lack of available shelters and sufficient resources has intensified the struggle for those living in the flood-affected areas, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and relief efforts to address the crisis.
