Berlin: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz affirmed on Tuesday EU preparedness to respond decisively to the US tariffs, in case commercial disputes between the two sides grow.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Merz said the US Administration should not underestimate the EU ability to retaliate with similar steps, hoping at the same time that the two parties could reach a deal.
He said he is in permanent contact with US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to make further efforts by the end of this month to avoid a possible commercial war between the two sides.
Merz's statements came after Donald had threatened to impose a 30-percent tariff on the European exports coming to his country.
