France Heatwave Triggers School Closures Across 84 Departments

Kuwait city: France's national weather service, Meteo-France, declared an orange-level heatwave on Monday in 84 departments, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and will continue until at least mid-week.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the alert excludes the coasts of Breton and Normandy and some areas bordering Belgium. Authorities plan to maintain the warning in most provinces until Tuesday, as the hot weather is expected to persist.

Nearly 200 schools have been fully closed in response to the extreme temperatures. French Education Minister Elisabeth Borne emphasized the importance of implementing protective measures within schools, including the possibility of children staying at home if necessary.

The government convened a crisis meeting on Sunday evening, involving several ministries, to review preventative guidelines, particularly in health, as the heatwave affects large parts of the country. Public authorities have urged residents, schools, and businesses to exercise extreme caution, especially safeguarding children and the elderly.
