Cairo: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan held talks on Monday regarding the ongoing developments in the Gaza Strip and Sudan. The discussions occurred during a phone call as part of continuous efforts for consultation and coordination on regional matters and to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that during the call, Foreign Minister Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of advancing the requirements of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan. He advocated for support of the national committee tasked with administering Gaza and the deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire. Additionally, he highlighted the need for early recovery and reconstruction, along with ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty underscored the importance of pushing for a humanitarian truce as a precursor to a comprehensive ceasefire. He stressed the significance of maintaining Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity while supporting its national institutions. He also pointed out the essential need to provide safe havens and ensure unrestricted access for humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese population.
The statement further mentioned that the call reviewed opportunities to strengthen Egyptian-Turkish relations and build on the recent positive momentum. Additionally, preparations for organizing the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, to be co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, were also discussed.
