Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced on Monday her intention to dissolve the powerful Lower House of parliament this week, paving the way for a general election aimed at securing public approval of her fiscal policies. Takaichi, Japan's first female premier since her appointment in October, shared this decision during a press conference, underscoring her commitment to directly seeking the public's mandate.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Takaichi plans to dissolve the Lower House at the onset of an extraordinary parliamentary session scheduled to convene on Friday. The general election is slated for February 8, with the official campaign period kicking off on January 27. "I want to ask the public directly to judge whether they will entrust the governance of this nation to me, Sanae Takaichi," the premier stated, emphasizing her desire to engage with the electorate on her leadership and policy directions.
