China, India Firm on Cooperation, Better Ways to Resolve Differences

Beijing: China and India on Monday emphasized the importance of finding common ground to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation and resolve differences, in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This commitment was underscored during a meeting in Beijing between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Indian counterpart, Subrahamanyam Jaishankar, who is visiting to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Wang highlighted that the essence of China-India relations is peaceful coexistence. He stressed the importance of adopting a long-term strategic vision, which he metaphorically described as the "dance of the dragon and the elephant," to find a path of consensus based on mutual respect and benefit. Wang emphasized that the relations between Beijing and New Delhi should not be influenced by a third party, and instead, should prioritize trust and cooperation over suspicion and competition. He assured China's willingness to enhance political mutual trust with India, expand cooperation, and communication to achieve sound, stable, and sustainable development of bilateral relations.

Jaishankar, on his part, mentioned that the agreement reached by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, last October had restored bilateral cooperation in various fields to its normal course. He stressed that the two countries are partners, not adversaries, and highlighted the importance of intensifying cultural and humanitarian exchanges, maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas, and preventing disagreements from escalating into conflicts. Jaishankar also expressed his desire to strengthen coordination to build a multipolar world.
