China: China on Monday reiterated its opposition against new US guidance that urges companies not to use Huawei’s Ascend AI chips technologies, slamming such a move as an “abusive” measure.
According to Kuwait News Agency, in the wake of the new US guidance, Beijing called on Washington to “correct its practices,” saying the move risks threatening the “stability of global semiconductor supply chains,” as stated in a commerce ministry statement.
The statement warned of the detrimental effects the new US guidance could have on the interests of Chinese firms, while also undermining creative global technology. The US move was described as “not conducive to long-term, mutually beneficial and sustainable cooperation and development between the two countries,” according to commerce ministry spokesperson He Yongqian.
The US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security issued new guidance stating that Huawei’s Ascend semiconductors are subject to US export controls, on grounds that they employ US technology.
