Kilis: Azerbaijan's natural gas began flowing into Syria through the Turkish province of Kilis. Up to two billion cubic meters of natural gas can be exported annually to Syria via this pipeline, as Turkish Anadolu Ajansi quoted Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Bayraktar stated that the Turkish-Syria gas pipeline was opened as a symbol of friendship, with hopes of achieving surplus and prosperity for the two countries and their nations, and fostering peace in the region. Electricity is currently exported to Syria through eight points, with plans to increase this by 25 percent and eventually more than double the current capacity.
Bayraktar also disclosed that he met with his Syrian counterpart, Mohammad Al-Bashir, last May to discuss technical support and opportunities to enhance electrical infrastructure and natural gas in Syria through reconstruction efforts. He mentioned that a visit to Damascus took place to discuss critical topics like electricity, natural gas, and oil, resulting in the signing of a memorandum of understanding covering energy, mining, and hydrocarbon fields.
