Arab League Pledges Continued Support for Lebanon

Beirut: The Arab League has reiterated its commitment to supporting Lebanon in efforts to enhance state sovereignty and promote peace, as well as to improve the welfare of its citizens. This pledge was made during a meeting between Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abdulgheit and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Abdulgheit expressed the League's willingness to aid Lebanon during what he termed as a new chapter in the country's relations with the Arab world. The Secretary General welcomed President Aoun to "the house of the Arabs," where they discussed the outcomes of the recent Arab Summit. One significant outcome of the summit was Iraq's decision to establish a USD 40 million fund to support both Palestine and Lebanon, with each receiving USD 20 million.

The Arab League's support, as articulated by Abdulgheit, aims to bolster Lebanon's sovereignty and peace initiatives. The Secretary General also praised President Aoun's recent diplomatic efforts, which included visits to several Arab states. These visits are seen as instrumental in strengthening Lebanon's ties within the region and signify the beginning of a promising era for the country.
