Algiers: The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Charge d'Affaires of the French Embassy in Algiers on Saturday to express strong protest against the airing of "an erroneous documentary" by France 2, a French public broadcaster, two days prior.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Ministry released a statement describing the documentary as containing deeply offensive and provocative falsehoods. The Ministry strongly condemned the documentary and criticized the involvement of the French Ambassador to Algeria in what it described as an offensive campaign against the country, actions which run counter to his diplomatic duties as outlined by international norms.
The French diplomat was informed of the serious consequences of this action, which the Ministry stated constitutes a blatant violation of the institutions of the Algerian republic. The Ministry's statement further warned that the behavior of the French public broadcaster, along with the hostile practices supported by French official circles, represents an escalation that risks maintaining tension in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
