Caracas: Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro has expressed his openness to engage in dialogue with US President Donald Trump to address ongoing tensions between the two nations. Maduro conveyed his willingness to hold face-to-face discussions with Trump, following the latter's expression of interest in resolving contentious issues through dialogue.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Maduro emphasized that diplomacy is the sole path to resolving disputes between countries and governments, warning that armed conflict would only exacerbate problems. The White House had previously stated that all options, including military action, were on the table concerning Venezuela.
Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly communicated to a US media outlet that President Trump is open to talks with any leader, including Maduro. The anticipated discussions are expected to focus on reducing tensions between the United States and Venezuela.
Recently, President Trump had threatened military action against narcotics gangs beyond US borders, consistent with US operations targeting drug cartels in Latin America. This stance has heightened tensions with Venezuela and Colombia, which announced their intention to cooperate with Washington on intelligence related to drug trafficking.
