Venezuela Court Appoints Delcy Rodriguez as Acting President Amid Maduro Arrest

Caracas: Venezuela's Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court has assigned Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to assume the duties of acting president following the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro. The court's decision, which was circulated by local media late Saturday, mandates that Rodriguez will assume full responsibilities and exercise all powers granted to the presidency during Maduro's absence.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Head of the Constitutional Chamber Tania D'Amelio stated in the ruling that the measure aims to ensure administrative continuity and comprehensive national defense during the enforced absence of constitutional President Nicolas Maduro. The court emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in the face of what it described as foreign aggression against Venezuela.

The court ordered the immediate notification of the designated vice president, the high military command, and the National Assembly. This decision is seen as a response to external pressures and challenges facing the country at this time.

Earlier, Vice President Rodriguez affirmed that the government remains in place to manage national affairs, condemning what she referred to as a blatant and unacceptable attack. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented that Washington's next steps will depend on Rodriguez's responses.
