US Secretary of State Calls for Immediate Resumption of Iran Nuclear Talks

Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged Iran to promptly resume direct negotiations with Washington to reach an agreement concerning its nuclear program. This appeal follows the reimposition of United Nations sanctions.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Rubio emphasized in a press statement on Saturday that President Donald Trump remains open to diplomacy, stating that securing a deal is the most favorable outcome for both the Iranian populace and global stability. He urged Tehran to engage in good-faith direct talks without delay, warning that failure to do so would necessitate the immediate implementation of snapback sanctions by international partners to compel Iran's leadership to act responsibly for the benefit of its nation and global safety.

Rubio further highlighted that the UN Security Council's resolution to reinstate sanctions on Iran serves as a testament to the global community's refusal to succumb to threats from Tehran, underlining the importance of accountability. He called upon other nations to ensure the immediate enforcement of these measures.

The UN sanctions on Iran, which had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear accord, were reinstated earlier on Saturday. Meanwhile, the European troika comprising Britain, France, and Germany voiced their support for the "snapback" mechanism and urged Iran to fully comply with Security Council resolutions.
